Keller 5 MONTHS

I am running behind on my weekly and monthly updates.  It is actually funny to write his monthly post a month late because most everything is different.  It is amazing how fast they grow!

Weight: 18.5 lbs

Baby, you had a great month!  Your little personality just keeps on growing.  Here's a little bit about your 4th month...

  • You rolled over front to back after Grandmother told you to... show off!
  • Early in your 4th month... you started fighting your bottles.  You are in the beginnings of teething and would much rather nurse so we were nursing more and not giving you as many bottles.  Turned out to be a blessing in disguise because I was having to pump, make bottle, feed you, and then clean bottle.   Cuts out a TON of work.  So, thank you for teaching mama!
  • You rub your right ear and back on your head when tired.
  • OH NO.... your hair no longer sticks up!!!  BIG SAD FACE.  You are still such a cutie.
  • You fight your diaper changes.  You are constantly trying to roll over and will throw little fits when we put you back on your back.  You are super strong and sometimes it can turn into WWIII just to get your diaper on.  I think you love to be naked and you also hate feeling trapped, therefore, that's why diaper changes have become quite difficult.
  • Feb 2nd you spent your first and LAST (joking) night away from mama and daddy.  We went to Nashville with some friends.  It will be a while before I am doing that again.  You did great for Granddaddy though.
  • You and Abbott Hall took a trip to Birmingham, AL to visit Aunt Sarah.  It was your first time out of state.  We took granddaddy's van and called the mini road trip a VANtastic Voyage.  Aunt Ashley sat in the back seat with both babies and took turns keeping you both happy.  You love your BFF Abbott.
  • You are grabbing for toys on Feb 3rd.

That's right... my child taking a poopy break!

I have a TOOTH!
  • You love hitting your belly over and over again.  You smack it hard too!
  • You yell "MAAAAA" like you are saying mama.  I know you aren't saying mama yet, but it's still cute to hear "maaaaa".  Guess what??? I come running when I hear it:)
  • You are grabbing and playing with your feet.  You love taking off your socks and sucking your toes.
  • You love to fake cry.  You also do a mixture between and cry and a laugh that is hysterical.
  • During diaper changes, your favorite thing to do is hold your toes.  We often keep you naked for a few minutes because you love it so much.  We call it "airing you out".  Yes, you pee sometimes but it is well worth the risk.
  • You have had issues with Eczema this month.  It doesn't seem to bother you and oatmeal baths have helped.
  • You love your playmate and grabbing for all your friends that dangle.
  • Granddaddy found your first tooth on Feb. 2nd!!!!  Mama cried.
  • You have mastered the tripod position.  It won't be long till you are sitting up.
  • You tried rice cereal.  We just do a couple bites a night.  Practicing for the real stuff!
  • You went to two MTSU basketball games this month.
  • You love scooting to the head of the bed to sleep.  You do it every night.
  • Right before you turned 5 months old, you started nursing full time.  During teething, you only wanted to comfort nurse and refused bottles.  Like I said, it was a blessing in disguise.  However, with mama out of sight and a lots of encouragement from daddy, you will take a bottle.
  • We are in the middle of Nap Boot Camp, AKA "crying it out".  Nighttime and morning naps you have always been good at.  It was the afternoon naps that were a problem.  We had a couple of bad afternoons but things are looking up.  (more about this on his 6 month post)
  •  Your favorite is bath time.  You love splashing you arms and legs.  It is our favorite time too because you are so stinking cute playing in the bath.  However, you do throw  little baby fits when we take you out of the bath
Laid back...
  • You love playing with our faces.  Especially, taking daddy's glasses off.
  • You transferred out of your infant car seat and into a convertible car seat.  You were running out of room and we were desperate to find a way for you to tolerate riding in the car.  It worked!!!  I wouldn't dare say you love riding in the car, but you seem to be handling it better.  You love the extra room and sitting more upright.
  • Your favorite hangout spot is on mama and daddy's bed.
  • You are not a thumb sucker after all.  Nor do you like a pacie.  You get your comfort from nursing.
  • You started sleeping with your hands under you and your booty up in the air.  The "booty up position" is by far my favorite sleeping position!
  • You chew on your hands constantly because of teething.  I've tried teething toys and you do love Sophie BUT your hands are your favorite.
  • You are better at the bumbo.  I can tell it is working and you are getting ready to sit up!
  • You are still 100% a mama's boy and I am loving it!

As you can tell, we had a busy but very exciting month!  LOVE YOU  - mama

Mommy Makeover :: Week 2

Update: I LOVE my Sigma brush.  Worth every penny spent.

This past week I started my new PRN Ultrasonographer job at the local hospital in town.  Things are going OKAY.  I am having a hard time leaving Keller.  Everyone says part-time is the best of both worlds but right now it's not feeling that way at all.  I miss him dearly while I am at work.  It is especially hard while I am training for the next month because I will be working full-time.  If you could please say a quick prayer for me I would greatly appreciate it.

I have been practicing my new makeup tricks.  I had no idea how little I knew about makeup!  I also watched YouTube videos on applying eye makeup.  I learned that orange and bronze colors can really make blue eyes pop.  I went out and purchased these two gems...

Loreal

Maybelline Bad to the Bronze
I also got an eyeshadow base and it really helps the eyeshadow stay on longer...

NYX eyeshadow base

I got this new curling wand because I love the loose waves look. I have not had time to try it out yet but I will hopefully will get to it this weekend... oh and it's only $30!

Bed Head curling wand

I also got this super cute blue jean dress from Target.  It goes great with leggings and flats... just my style!

Mossimo dress
Next up, I am hoping to start getting my workout on!  I have been a runner since my freshman year of high school.  That's almost 14 years of running and I am not sure how much more my joints can take.  I am thinking about trying Crossfit?!?

Here lately...

Lately, there's been a teething boy at our household.  There's been tons of drooling...

Even some pouting...

I would be lying if I said it hasn't been challenging.  I hate to see you uncomfortable and not knowing how to make you feel better has been frustrating.  All in all, you have handled it pretty well and now have TWO bottom teeth.  It is moments like these that make it all better...

My new favorite picture.

Can you tell I'm a little obsessed with my child?

Mommy Makeover :: Week One

The past 18 months have been a whirlwind.  Between infertility treatments, growing a baby, fighting to keep growing my baby, and then having a baby... It has been a LONG time since I thought about taking care of myself.  Doing something for ME!  Let's call it an awakening or an epiphany on how much I actually let myself go.  Now, don't get me wrong, I will always love my yoga pants and running shoes but I can't keep wearing them everyday!!!  Typically, I MIGHT wear makeup once a week and I MIGHT do my hair once or twice a month.  This routine was not doing so much for my self esteem. This mama was in a MAJOR rut!  I have promised myself over the next 4 weeks to turn this DRAG into (hopefully) a happier and hipper mama.

Here's how it is going to work.  Each week, I will make a few purchases to help with my mama makeover.  They can be beauty products or clothes.
Things I CANNOT buy: running shoes, workout clothes, and pjs.
Yikes, my three favorites!

It's time to make more of an effort in my daily appearance. I will shower and blow dry my hair at night and in the mornings I will fix my hair and do my makeup.  I will ditch the workout pants and pjs for cuter outfits (wish me luck on this one).

My goal in all this is SOOOO much deeper than to just look cute.  Hopefully, I will learn to take time for myself.  After all, a happy mama = a happy baby.  RIGHT?!

Oh, the best part, I will show you everything I learn and buy!  I couldn't be doing this without some help from my mom.  Thanks Mom!  Oh and Jeremy gave me the green light too!

Let's get to the goods...

I still apply my makeup like I did in high school.  So basically, I knew I was doing it all wrong.  It was time to educate myself in the makeup world.  I got down to business by watching YouTube videos on how to properly apply makeup.  The YouTube videos turned out to be SOOOOOO helpful and I highly recommend them.  First up foundation.  I knew I didn't want to spend a ton of money, so after researching I decided on L'oreal True Match and I love it!  It covers well but doesn't leave my face feeling like it can't breath.  It is only $12.

Also, from the YouTube videos I learned that a good brush is almost more important than the foundation.  A friend recommended Sigma f80 flat kabuki.  I am so excited about this brush.  It's kind of pricey at $18 but I hear it is totally worth every penny!  It will be coming in the mail soon since you can only order it online:)

I am so excited about this peplum top I got at Target.  I am totally loving the 80's trend right now.  Unfortunately, Jeremy made me pinky promise that I wouldn't get bangs OR I would totally be doing bangs in my makeover!  I can't wait to wear this look this spring. Oh, and it's only $22.
That's all for this week. Stay tuned...

Keller 4 MONTHS

Weight: 16 lbs 8oz 73%
Length: 25 1/4 in 60%
Head: 66%

WOW... slow down baby boy.  Your 3rd month was a big one!!!  Lots happened this month and mama was having a hard time keeping up with all your new tricks.  Here is everything I can remember:
  • You belly laughed for daddy the first time on 12/29/12.  Best belated Christmas gift he has ever received.
  • You finally moved to your big boy crib on 11/27/12.  It was definitely harder on mama than it was on baby.  In fact, I think you love your little crib:)  I still miss having you in my room, but I know it is best for you to be in your crib.
  • We are still doing cloth diapers 99% of the time and loving it.  Even daddy loves it.
  • You rolled over back to front on 1/4/13.  It was a pretty cool sight to see. There was lots of cheering and coaching going on.  You are an old pro at rolling over now.
  • You belly laughed for mama on 1/3/13.
  • You are a drooling machine!  You go through 2 to 3 bibs a day.
  • You went on your very first road trip to Memphis.  We stayed with our besties the Davenports.  You wore a tiger suit to your first tigers game.  You met mama's hopeful hearts friends.  Jennifer and Derek became your godparents.  You slept the whole way there but struggled on the way home.  Overall, it was a wonderful trip back home.  It was so special and emotional bringing our Memphis baby back home.
  • You got your 3 month pics taken by the oh so fabulous Jennifer Davenport, AKA coolest godmother ever.  Jennifer, does this mean Grayson and Keller are godbothers?
  • We went to Knoxville to meet Shelby Ann while daddy went to the Tigers' game.  You cried almost the whole way to Knoxville.  Thankfully, the ride home was a different story. We had fun visiting our Knoxville friends.
  • We celebrated our first Christmas together.  It was blissful.  Mama and daddy pretended like you were so excited with all the Christmas festivities.  Such as, you wore your Christmas jammies to bed, we read you "twas the night before Christmas", and we opened all your presents from Santa.  We felt like kids again!  You went to the Christmas eve service at FUMC and was such a well behaved baby boy.
  • You love staring at our shirts.
  • You are in the beginnings of grabbing for things but you haven't mastered this skill just yet.
  • You HATE your car seat.  It's pitiful and breaks mama's heart when you cry with big tears.
  • You love your bouncy seat again.  You love your friends that dangle and you have figured out how to make it bounce.
  • You love your baby Einstein videos.  Mama will only let you watch 10 mins about 3 times a week.  You love the TV in general.  So much so, we have to keep it off.  Thank goodness for DVR so mama can still watch her shows.
  • You want to nurse more.  It is so sweet to see how excited you get right before you nurse.  You will get the biggest grin and squeal:)  We still mostly do bottles during the day but I am trying to nurse you more.
  • You met your new friend Johnny Jump Up.  It's a love/hate relationship right now but when you get bigger I have no doubt you two will be best buds.
  • You LOVE books.  Your favorite is MOO BAA LALALA.  It is a special book because Mama always thinks of a special boy named Joseph.
  • You are baby talking up a storm.  You talk the most right before bed (Mama thinks you are telling her all about your day) and right after your first bottle in the morning (Mama thinks you are telling her about your dreams).  PS, you always dream about your kitty Madison.
  • After you rolled over, you started sleeping on your stomach.  It made mama very nervous at first.
  • You found Madison on 1/10/13.  Oh boy, I wonder how much longer she has till you pull her tail.
  • You love grabbing mama's hair.
  • You watch us move around the room.  You know if we are in the room or not.  No more sneaking around you!
  • You are super heavy to hold now!  Even daddy can't hold you for long.
  • You love to help holding your bottle.
  • You are a wiggle worm when you sleep.  It is funny to watch.
  • You transferred toys from one hand to the other on 1/18/13.
  • You started sucking your thumb consistently on 1/18/13.  Thank goodness for your thumb.  Mama will tell you to find your thumb when you get mad in the car and sometimes it works!!!!!  It is the cutest thing ever to watch to suck on your thumb and I love the little noises you make too.
  • You love to preform for your Grandmother.  You tend to always do all your new tricks for her.
  • You are not the best napper.  You take your longest nap in the mornings, then you take a couple of cat naps in the afternoon.  That's okay because you are an excellent night sleeper.  You get the best baby sleeper award for nighttime.  You will go to bed between 9-10 pm and wake up around 7:30 am.  There have been a few nights where you almost slept a full 12 hours..... thank you!
  • Last but not least you are a Mama's boy 100%.  I don't mind one bit that you love your mama the most!
I love you Boo Bear!- Mama
